Union Budget will boost medical and wellness tourism into India: Prahlad Singh Patel

Appreciating the enhanced focus on the health and wellness sector in the budget, Patel said that it will provide a big impetus and boost to medical and wellness tourism in India

While the tourism and hospitality industries of the country are agitated over the way the sectors have been ignored in the Union Budget 2021-22, the Union Tourism & Culture Minister, Prahlad Singh Patel has welcomed the budget proposals saying that it is a major landmark in building a “self-confident”, “self-reliant” India.

Appreciating the enhanced focus on the health and wellness sector in the budget, Patel said that it will provide a big impetus and boost to medical and wellness tourism in India in the post-Corona world.

The minister welcomed the proposal in the budget to continue with Centre’s PRASAD and Swadesh Darshan schemes by which the
ministry supports infrastructure creation at pilgrim centres.

Patel said that the budget also supports the ministry's “iconic sites” development project. Around 19 iconic tourism destinations have been identified to be developed with world-class infrastructure under it, the minister said.

Patel said that good infrastructure in terms of roads, railway and airports are critical for tourism development and the budget has provided major thrust on connectivity enhancement across road, rail and air infrastructure, which in turn will boost tourism.
