Cardiac Tumour

The abnormal or insignificant growth of the heart or its vessels, it is referred to as cardiac tumour. There are different types of cardiac tumour. When the tumor starts forming in the heart and stays there, it is called primary tumour. The other one is a secondary tumour. Here, the tumor forms in other part of the body, but gradually moves to the heart. Most of the cardiac tumors are not harmful, but the size of the tumor and its location can cause problems.

Symptoms:

There are hardly any symptoms of a cardiac tumour. A few probable reasons are mentioned below-

• Shortness of breath
• Fever and body pain
• Lightheadedness or coughing
• Pressure in the left atrium

Causes

• Genetic predisposition
• Cell overgrowth
• Tobacco

Diagnosis

Imaging test quickly identifies the location of the tumor and its size. Imaging tests include computed tomography scan, MRI scan, radionuclide imaging. To determine the characteristics of cancer, cardiac MRI is the best option.

Complications and the Risks Involve

• Heart stroke and heart failure
• Formation of blood clots will accommodate other body parts of the circulatory system
• Blockage in blood flow can cause embolism

Cost

As the removal of the tumour requires access to the heart, the charges may be similar to open-heart surgery. The cost of the treatment may depend on the following factors:

• The charges of surgery.
• The cost of medicines.
• The fees of the oncologist and surgeon.
• The charge of the operating room, residing ward, etc.
• The type of surgery applied (open-heart, minimally invasive, or robotically assisted).
